EAT: LE CLEC, HAWTHORN (TAKE TWO)
With so many new gems to try when it comes to Melbourne's food scene, I rarely end up returning to the same restaurant unless visit number one leaves quite the impression... or for convenience which applies to some of the surrounding restaurants at work. My revisit to Le Clec falls within the former category, with a revamped menu to try during my most recent visit.
When I had last visited Le Clec last year, I was wowed by my order of the Hippy Bowl (you CAN make friends with a salad THAT tasty), and was also quite taken by the few balanced bites of kimchee omelette that I had tried. This time around, I opted for the grain salad. While not as taste bud-blowing as the Hippy Bowl experience, it was by no means a dull salad either, and I quite enjoyed navigating through the different textures and earthy flavours from the quinoa, freekeh and farro. And of course I couldn't not order it with some halloumi thrown in...
Grain salad - 63C egg, quinoa, freekeh, farro, cassava crisp and vincotto dressing.
Seasonal avocado - truss tomatoes, sesame seeds, Danish feta, lime and chilli flakes salt, with added cured salmon.
