EAT: THE FANCY PARROT, ASCOT VALE

Good times have landed in Ascot Vale with the opening of The Fancy Parrot, a cosy wine bar with quite an extensive selection of drinks accompanied by a tasty menu of grazing bites. Hot items like the Tempura Tiger Prawns and mixed mushrooms with polenta were flavoursome dishes that would be on par with those from a restaurant kitchen. The more typical wine accompaniments of cheese and pate rounded out our spread nicely, and the serving sizes of both were actually quite generous.

While still relatively new-ish, locals already seem to be flocking to the wine bar as regulars. So busy was the space during our Friday post-work visit that we settled for a spot out back in the courtyard area, which was quieter thanks to the cooler weather and looming threat of rain. Both not an issue thanks to the heating and shelter, and definitely won’t be an issue on those beautiful, balmy summer evenings. Look no feather than The Fancy Parrot for a good time :)

Mixed mushrooms - with fresh herbs & crispy pan-fried polenta.

Tempura Tiger Prawns - with wasabi mayo.

Free-range chicken liver paté - served with house-made pickles & toasted sourdough.

Cheeseboard - choice of 1-3 cheeses served with lavosh, sourdough & accompaniments.
