EAT: CAFE LOUIS, FITZROY

While eating is usually the last thing on my mind when I cross the finish line of a run, I was actually feeling peckish after completing my first marathon run during the Melbourne Marathon Festival late last year. I suppose running non stop for over 4 hours will do that… alongside dehydration, tiredness, soreness, adrenaline-induced jitters, elation and all the other feels. After a brief conk out in the basement level of the MCG, I met up with some friendly faces and we made our way over to Cafe Louis in Fitzroy for a celebratory feed and much needed caffeination/hydration. Mission accomplished; my taste buds and stomach were pretty stoked by the pumpkin baguette comprising crunchy fresh baguette sandwiched with a mildly spiced, nutty pumpkin smash. The overall fragrance level was maxed out with sweet caramelised onions, a coconut sambal, fresh coriander and shallots. For a more indulgent option, the Benny, Cafe Louis’ epic take on the humble eggs Benedict with a croquette base loaded with pulled pork and sriracha bearnaise is hard to beat.
