EAT: STEPPING STONE, SOUTH YARRA [CLOSED]
Step into Stepping Stone, one of South Yarra's latest brunch openings and treat your taste buds to one vibrantly-coloured and tasty feed.
Better still, much of the menu also delivers on the healthy front. And if, IF, you're not sold on the cafe yet, the dishes also come at a very reasonable price tag, especially when compared to many of Melbourne's popular cafes. Serious bang for buck, guaranteed.
We visited the cafe one rainy Sunday afternoon and to the delight of my rumbling tummy, we had the cafe's outdoor seating area to ourselves. Pending indoor seating permit applications will soon rectify the current situation with the limited seating. In the mean time, customers can also enjoy most of the menu selections to go.
Aloha bowl - poke style bento.
Kiss & run soldiers - dippy eggs with sides.
Hey Stoner - fresh fruit muesli coconut bowl.
Melbourne's love affair with poke bowls continues to grow, with these bowls now popping up in what seems like every second cafe. No complaints from me though, I'm a big poke fan. Stepping Stone's take on the dish easily ranks amongst my top picks of poke bowls in Melbourne. There was a sensational, fragrant sesame presence that permeated each bite, and together with the tempura kale and soft boiled ramen egg, added much wow factor that made the Aloha bowl stand out from the crowd.
While I was very satisfied with my poke bowl, I did also have my eye on the Kiss and run soldiers, which looked like a very well-portioned take on a big breakfast. Return visit? Most definitely. Hopefully soon.
