EAT: WIDE OPEN ROAD, BRUNSWICK
Brunswick’s Wide Open Road first landed on my radar years ago, and the eatery has long established itself as one of the area’s go-to brunch destinations. The prime opportunity to visit recently arose through a catch up with a friend who recently moved to the area. With our opposing preferences for savoury and sweet, I opted for the nourish bowl and got to try a tasty bite of the weekend special quince and prosecco sabayon. That’s some balance right there.
The nourish bowl was actually rather substantial, loaded to the brim with all the good things including a fillet of sesame seared salmon, spiced cauliflower, greens and fried rice… hold the bamboo please. All the different elements helped to mix things up, ensuring no boring bites. If dessert for breakfast is more your thing, then the quince and prosecco sabayon would be right up your alley. A silky prosecco sabayon base, topped with poached quince, dollops of meringue and a beautiful crunch from the almond biscotti.
Nourish bowl - with sesame seared salmon, pickled cabbage and ginger, greens, bamboo, spiced cauliflower, crispy shallots and spring onions, brown rice with chilli fried egg and chilli lemongrass sambal.
Quince and prosecco sabayon - poached quince with a prosecco sabayon, almond biscotti and Italian meringue.
