EAT: HOFBRAUHAUS BRUNCH, MELBOURNE

Melbourne’s favourite Bavarian drinking hole Hofbrauhaus is now also doing brunch. And what perfect timing for a hearty brunch feed with Melbourne’s weather quickly cooling down to the bone chilling temps. Brrrrr. Even my pick of one of the lighter options; the panfried mushrooms, oozed of hearty comfort. That or indulgently rich cultured butter. Paired with the earthiness of the mushrooms, each bite was incredibly flavoursome and had me going back for more. The pork roast Schweinesandwich Reuben (crackling included, yassss) and the super creamy and cheesy Schinken-Kase Sandwich are also great picks to wow the taste buds and chase away those winter blues. If you still have some room for it after the savouries, some freshly cooked, house made donuts filled with a just-the-right-amount-of-sweet-and-tart plum compote hits the spot.

I personally prefer coffee with my brunch, but here at Hofbrauhaus beer is also an option. When in Germany…

Schweinesandwich Reuben - with pork roast, sauerkraut, pickles, Bavarian mustard-mayo on light rye sourdough.

Schinken-Kase Sandwich - with melted Mountain Glacier cheese, bechamel and Prager ham on sourdough.

Schwammeri Fruhstuck - Woodland mushrooms, pan fried in cultured butter, with poached eggs on sourdough.

Krapfen - haus made warm doughnuts with vanilla sauce and plum compote.
