EAT: DUMBO, WEST FOOTSCRAY
Melbourne's brunch culture is well and truly alive on the west side, with new cafes continuing to open up and further out from the inner suburbs.
Wooed by both its somewhat simple but absolutely delicious brunch offerings and close proximity to home, newcomer Dumbo won me over from the get go. So much so that the cafe landed on my list of top 10 food adventures of 2016.
There was incredible flavour and balance captured in the avocado and heirloom tomatoes dish. Ensuring no boring bites, the punchiness from the goats cheese, fragrant and nutty dukkah, basil, chilli and red onion all contributed to the overall flavour palette.
More often than not, fritters and disappointment go hand in hand when the texture of the fried exterior or seasoning of the fritter mix falls short. One bite of Dumbo's take confirmed that this was far from the case, and I enjoyed the crispy crunch of the fritters and fresh accompaniments.
Unfortunately for me and my thoughts of returning for the dish, the fritters no longer appear to be available on the current menu. Boo. But with the avo dish on the menu, and other tasty delights I'm sure, a return visit to Dumbo is definitely in the works.
