EAT: CHERRY DARLINGS BAKEHOUSE, FORESTVILLE ADELAIDE
With an hour or so to spare between picking up our hire car at the airport and a late lunch booking at D’Arenberg, we decided to pop into a bakery en route for some caffeination and baked goods… we just did not count on said bakery to be vegan. But hey, I suppose we did luck out in some ways as Cherry Darlings Bakehouse appears to be one of Adelaide’s best vegan bakeries. On the menu for our morning tea was a nice blend of savoury and sweet: a Hawaiian chicken parma pie, sausage roll, melting moment and jam donut. Verdict? Pretty good for a spread without eggs and butter - the pastry and melting moment had quite a ‘short’ texture akin to something made with butter. The fillings of the pies and sausage rolls were flavoursome and while evidently not meaty, tasty. There’s definitely nothing wrong with a vego pie or roll.. the disappointment only comes when you expect one thing and end up with something different. In saying that, Cherry Darlings Bakehouse was not a bad way to kick off our Adelaide eating adventures.
