EAT: TWO FAT MONKS, FAIRFIELD [CLOSED]

With some of the freshest coffee thanks to their on site coffee roaster in addition to quite an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, look no further than Fairfield's Two Fat Monks for your caffeine and brunch needs.

We visited over the summer break to check out the new menu, with dishes like the espresso panna cotta immediately catching our eye. The humble panna cotta is running rampant, featuring in brunch menus all over Melbourne, but Two Fat Monk's take manages to stand out from the crowd. The espresso flavour captured in the silky panna cotta (much jiggle) was sensationally aromatic and not overly sweet, pairing beautifully with the sweeter crunch from the granola. A great dish for the sweet tooths who enjoy a sweet option as their first meal of the day or for dessert after the savouries. To those in search of a heartier option for lunch, the pork tacos come highly recommended. The tender pieces of caramelised pork belly were a gorgeous contrast to the backdrop of flavours set up by the tangy pickled onions, biting jalapeños and creamy lemon mayo. Comfort food at its very best. Summer may be quickly fading away but there's still time to try these dishes before a new menu rolls!

Pork tacos - with pickled onions, red cabbage, lemon mayo and jalapeno peppers, served on soft shell tacos.

Salmon tartare - house-cured Atlantic salmon with avocado, capers and lavosh.

Espresso panna cotta - with granola, apple, strawberries, blueberries, desiccated coconut, macadamia, pomegranate and coyo.
