RECAP: AN OUTING AT THE QUEEN VIC MARKET
One of my last outings before self isolation measures and restrictions really started to ramp up took place on my first free weekend following the submission of my fellowship application. With the sun shining, I headed out to the Queen Victoria Market for some lunch… and a hot jam donut, which was something that I had been thinking about whilst writing. An excellent post-submission treat. But before dessert comes lunch. I returned to Meet Sando for their egg sando, something that I had missed out on during my last visit. What I had envisioned were the egg salad sandwiches from the convenience stores in Japan, but Meet Sando’s version takes things up a notch with a crispy soft boiled egg, oozy yolk and all, in the centre. The creamy mayo also has a gorgeous nori presence that imparts a memorable umami flavouring, further setting it apart from Japan’s convenience store versions. So. Much. Yasssss. I already want another one. For all you CBD folks, Meet Sando are currently open for takeaway and delivery during the stage three covid restrictions - remember to support your local businesses if you can.
A Melbourne institution, the freshly piped hot jam donuts from the American Doughnut Kitchen van are an oldie but a goodie, and are still serving up the goods during this time.
