EAT: MR JOE, RICHMOND
It’s a given that I have to set aside some time in the days leading up to a running event to prepare for said run… and part of that preparation includes researching where to eat post-run. Perhaps the most important aspect of my prep :)
For this year’s Melbourne Marathon, or rather 2019, I found myself some way up the road from the finish line at Mr Joe for a Japanese-inspired brunch feed. The menu was filled with tasty-sounding options and it took us some time to whittle down our picks. Despite being handed a license to eat, I don’t usually have much of an appetite after a big run, and stuck with just one dish. Or rather thirds from each of three dishes, because I wasn’t the only indecisive one :)
Iced latte.
Crabmeat croquettes - with tuna tartare, ponzu dashi, yuzu cream, avocado edamame smash, basil oil & shichimi.
Open tuna onigirazu - with tempura nori, oishi rice, furikake, avocado, pink sauerkraut, cherry tomato, bonito flake & yuzu dressing.
Chicken katsu sando.
Angus beef rib on yaki onigiri - with charred king oyster mushroom, furikake, fish floss, cucumber salad & chilli oil.
