EAT: THE STABLES OF COMO HIGH TEA/GUY TEA

The beautiful grounds of The Stable of Como serve as the perfect setting for high tea. But when it comes to the afternoon indulgence, the folks at the South Yarra establishment have something special up there sleeves, offering Melbourne's first 'guy tea' in addition to the more traditional high tea.

Intrigued by the novel concept of guy tea, but also a big fan of high tea in the traditional sense, I have now tried both spreads on two separate occasions. So how do the two stack up? I honestly could not pick a favourite. Both spreads were well executed and came with a good balance of savoury and sweet selections. The mini burgers and pie in addition to the twice cooked chips had my taste buds salivating over the guy tea spread from the get go, and they did not disappoint. But all this was easily rivalled by what I thought was the highlight of the savouries from the traditional high tea: the brie and fig chutney sandwiches. The pairing of the creamy brie and flavoursome chutney culminated in a perfect marriage of flavours. Cheesy good times indeed.

Regardless of which spread you pick, some delicious food and drinks amongst the gardens and grounds of The Stable of Como make for an excellent way to spend the afternoon. And if you really can't decide... why not try both? ;)
