EAT: BEATRIX, NORTH MELBOURNE

More than just drool-worthy in appearance, many of the creations that come out of Beatrix's kitchen are utter perfection when it comes to their taste and texture.

Located in North Melbourne, the cute and cosy cafe is almost always busy. You either have to be lucky with timing or just opt for takeaway. The selection of cakes and sweets on offer is quite extensive and rotated on a regular basis. Which can be both a good and bad thing; hankerings for a particular item occasionally go unfixed when said items are not on offer BUT more often than not will lead to the discovery of new tasty delights. I have returned to Beatrix on several occasions since my first visit, which took place just over a year ago, and have added a few more favourites to what appears to be a growing list. The most recent visit saw the addition of their cocoa sour cream layer and mandarin chiffon cakes to this list. The textures of both cakes were nailed to perfection and incredibly soft and moist. Flavours were great, although perhaps a touch too sweet for my liking but nothing a cup of tea couldn't rectify.

Needless to say, visit number five won't be the last.
